Heartland Dragons

Hi Dragons.

We are reaching out to you today to seek your assistance in our goal to be awarded financial support from Kruger Products Kruger Big Assist program to further our hockey association’s efforts to reduce the cost of hockey for our Dragon’s families in need of an off-ice assist.

15 Minor Hockey Associations across Canada will each receive $10,000 to help their member families struggling to afford registration fees in these unprecedented times.  Kruger Products recognizes the importance of youth hockey in Canada.

Volunteers, coaches, parents, and players are all encouraged to nominate our hockey association at BigAssist.ca until January 31, 2022.   To nominate our Heartland Dragons Hockey Association for the Kruger Big Assist, our Dragons families are encouraged to complete the online nomination form at BigAssist.ca to tell them about how the Dragons have assisted your player or players in their love for the game of hockey. Nominations can be written (only 150 to 500 words), or in video format (not to exceed 2 minutes or 100 mb), and must also talk about how the Heartland Dragons demonstrate one or more of the following qualities :

  • REACH those in the community in need of financial assistance.
  • INSPIRE youth to fall in love with the sport.
  • SUPPORT youth to achieve their dreams through sport.
  • ENCOURAGE diversity and inclusion in the community through hockey initiatives.

Here are some of the awesome programs your Heartland Dragons have created and are currently in place:

Jr. Dragon’s Hockey Program – we provide first time hockey players with a free starter kit to help reduce the cost of purchasing hockey equipment.

Senior High School Students Program – we provide opportunities for them to volunteer at our association to assist them in completing their 40 hours of community service required for graduation.  We are thrilled to announce that five of our player/volunteers will be given Mississauga Civic Award Recognition for Exemplary Volunteer Service for their efforts.

Coaching Certificates/Training Program – we provide several young adults and young hockey parents with free Coaching Clinics. This allows players to graduate to a coaching role once they age out of minor hockey with our organization to continue to enjoy the game they love from behind the bench. The young parents who committed to being a Coach, were able to enjoy the game even more by being on the ice and behind the bench encouraging our players to work hard and to have FUN!

Skill Development Sessions – we provide various skill-oriented programs at discounted rates (compared to private facilities) and below our cost to improve the skill level of your player and their ultimate enjoyment of the game. This includes:

Power Skating,

Goalie Clinics,

Shooting Clinics,

and new this year, an exciting JOGA fitness program.

Registration Fee Discounts – we provide Dragon families opportunities to reduce registration fees by taking advantage of:

Early Registration – save by registering by a stated date.

Sibling Discounts – save by having multiple children register.

Friend referrals – save by encouraging a friend to play.

HOKEH (Help our Kids Enjoy Hockey) – an equipment exchange program where parents can exchange their players outgrown equipment for either new/gently used equipment to help defray the cost of keeping our kids in hockey.

We are asking for your help to provide us the Big Assist we need to make this all happen again next season. Please nominate the Heartland Dragons!
